State police at Huntingdon are investigating an incident of theft by deception that cost a Huntingdon county woman thousands.
According to a state police news release, the 76-year-old Union Township resident reported she was involved in a scam in which she lost $13,917. The incident remains under investigation.
Two Centre County residents were recently scammed out of about $31,000, police reported Tuesday. Troopers provided the following prevention tips:

▪ Never give out your credit card information over the phone unless you’re certain you’re dealing with a reputable firm.
▪ Refuse to be rushed into anything.
▪ Call the police to report the incident immediately.
