Police from various agencies were on the scene Tuesday morning at 1030 Shady Lane Extension in Bellefonte.

A Bellefonte man is expected to be charged with killing his wife after she was found dead in their home.

Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller, who was at the home all morning Tuesday along with multiple investigating agencies, said police and fire personnel responded to a report of a fire overnight in the 1000 block of Shady Lane Extension.

During their investigation, Parks Miller said, police found the body of the female resident, reportedly in her 40s.

The DA said the suspect fled the scene and later crashed his car, after which he was taken into custody.

Coroner Scott Sayers was also at the home but said it would be several hours before additional information was available from his office.

Officers and crime scene investigators were on scene from Bellefonte and Spring Township police departments as well as Pennsylvania State Police. Parks Miller and police investigators could be seen conversing behind the home near a swimming pool as the investigation continued.

Bellefonte police have repeatedly declined comment, saying that authorities are not ready to release any information, and Spring Township police have deferred comment to the Bellefonte authorities leading the investigation.

Authorities were alerted to the house in heavily wooded neighborhood at about 11 p.m. Monday for a reported dwelling fire. Logan, Undine and Pleasant Gap fire companies had been dispatched to the scene where the body was discovered.
