A Clearfield County woman will stand trial for the death of her boyfriend.
Kayce Marie Lee, 31, of Mahaffey, waived her preliminary hearing Wednesday in Clearfield County court.
Lee was charged with criminal homicide for the stabbing death of Richard Bennett, found dead just 30 feet from his home. That count was changed to first degree murder, a charge which doesn’t permit bail.
According to state police at Punxsutawney, Lee reported Bennett missing the evening of Feb. 4, saying she had not seen him since they had a confrontation at 1:00 a.m. that morning. He allegedly left the residence on foot.
Police located him lying on his lawn between the driveway and a swing set. He was wearing a long sleeve thermal shirt, white briefs and no shoes. When questioned, Lee continued to say she did not see him lying there even though she came and went from the residence at least three times that day.
In her interview with police, Lee stated they were fighting about their daughter not being in bed. The argument moved into the kitchen where it reportedly became physical. Lee said Bennett struck her in the face so hard that he knocked the glasses from her face and the dentures from her mouth.
Lee allegedly stabbed Bennett before he ran from the residence.
Police were unable to find any signs of injuries to Lee other than a mild scratch on her neck.
Two other witnesses reported that they had seen Bennett with injuries he said were inflicted by Lee on other occasions.
