A Patton Township man was jailed Friday after he assaulted a township police officer, police said.
Police said Onyx Ricardo Mojica, of 1117 Ghaner Road, was walking along Ghaner Road at 3:24 a.m. when an officer stopped him. Police said Mojica was suspicious — dressed in dark clothing and carrying an empty backpack in an area where multiple car break-ins happened late in 2007. Mojica “refused to give his name or cooperate in any way with the officer,” according to a news release.
After a second officer arrived, Mojica still refused to take his left hand out of a pocket, police said. The officers suspected that Mojica may have been armed.
Mojica knocked down one officer and kicked him but was subdued, according to the release.

The officers found an 8-inch knife in his pocket, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Leslie Dutchcot and charged with assault and resisting arrest. Mojica was jailed and will next face a preliminary hearing.
