A Centre Hall man was charged with DUI and recklessly endangering another person after he drove his vehicle straight at another car Tuesday, state police at Rockview said.
It happened shortly before midnight at the intersection of Decker Road and state Route 45 in Potter Township, according to a police report.
Police said Jeffrey L. Port, 41, of 107 Water St., thought he was driving at a vehicle owned by his wife’s girlfriend.
But the targeted vehicle, it turned out, was a state police cruiser, police said. The trooper in the driver’s seat, William D. Benson, “had to drive his vehicle off the roadway (and) into a field to avoid being struck head-on,” according to the police report.

Port “exited his vehicle (visibly) intoxicated and attempted to fight a person that wasn’t there,” the report reads. Port was arrested and taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center, police said.
