Man charged with DUI, eluding police
Wade Myers, 19, of Howard, faced charges of theft, fleeing and eluding, driving under the influence and underage drinking after the vehicle he was driving was observed “swerving dangerously” on Jacksonville Road, state police said.
Police said the vehicle was southbound on the road shortly before 3 a.m. Friday when troopers saw it swerving into the oncoming lane. Seconds after that observation, police said, the troopers were advised that the vehicle had just been stolen from the Howard fire hall.
Police said that when they tried to stop the vehicle, Myers quickly pulled into a campground, exited the vehicle and fled on foot across Jacksonville Road and through an adjacent yard. He was then arrested about 200 yards from where he left the vehicle, police said.
