Police: Autopsy confirms Liberty Township man killed himself

An autopsy was held Saturday that determined a man involved in an attempted homicide in Liberty Township late last week was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot would, according to State Police at Rockview.

Trooper Timothy S. Guenot said police investigated an alleged attempted homicide that occurred at 112 Primrose Lane sometime between 11:50 p.m. Friday and 1:13 a.m. Saturday.

Guenot said the suspect, John E. Kelly Jr., 32, of Howard, violated a protection from abuse order that was in place involving a 30-year-old woman who police said was Kelly’s estranged wife.

Police said Kelly gained entry into the Primrose Lane home using a key and entered the bedroom where the woman and a 33-year-old York man were sleeping.

Police said Kelly, who was in possession of a firearm, made threats toward the two victims inside the home, then fired a round at one victim, while the other was able to push Kelly away.

Police said the male victim and Kelly got into a physical altercation, while the female victim called 911.

Police said when Kelly found out the police had been called, he fled the scene and was later found deceased near the Liberty Township Sewage Treatment facility.

The unnamed man was transported to the Lock Haven hospital and treated for injuries.
