Police: Constable attacked while serving papers; man charged with aggravated assault

State police at Clearfield say an constable was attacked Thursday while serving papers at a residence on Walnut Lane in the village of Lanse.

Rusty A. Maines, 48, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.

Police said a 61-year-old constable was attempting to serve legal documents to Maines’ wife at 4:25 p.m. Thursday when he was “physically assaulted” by Maines.

A police report did not say if the constable suffered injuries.

Maines was arraigned before District Judge Richard Ireland and was taken to Clearfield County Jail on $50,000 bail. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 4.
