Police: Woman scammed by California company when applying for loan

State police say a local woman was the victim of a scam involving a loan application.

Police said the woman, identified only as a 26-year-old from Woodland, paid a fee to an organization identified as Payday for America Inc., of Beverly Hills, Calif., while requesting a loan.

She never received the loan money, police said. The transaction occurred from Aug, 23 through Friday.

“The victim was scammed out of $2,400,” said state police at Clearfield, who are investigating the incident as theft by unlawful taking.

Police then offered a general caution: The “public is reminded not to give money to those who promise to give money in return.”
