Police investigate case of cruelty to animals

Spring Township police are investigating an animal cruelty case stemming from an incident on Tuesday.

Chief Michael Danneker said that four dogs and two cats were found living inside a home in Pleasant Gap that was filled with trash and feces.

Jersey Shore State Bank contacted authorities when a banker visited the home and found the animals living in deplorable conditions.

The property was in foreclosure but was not condemned, Danneker said.

The pets were initially taken to Straley Veterinary Associates on Zion Road, and then put into the custody of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which is helping in the investigation.

As of Thursday night, the animals were in an SPCA shelter in Philadelphia undergoing evaluations, according to an SPCA spokeswoman.

Danneker said that no arrests have been made.
