Bellefonte man gets 30-day sentence for animal cruelty

A Bellefonte man will serve jail time for animal cruelty.

Travis Conaway, 34, was found guilty of one count of cruelty to animals Feb. 21.

The charges stem from a Jan. 6 incident in which police said Conaway’s four dogs were left outdoors in temperatures that dipped to -2 degrees with inadequate shelter and frozen water.

District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker found Conaway guilty and sentenced him to 30 days in jail. He was also given a $750 fine.

“If you are going to have an outdoor dog or animal on a tether, you have serious responsibilities you need to fulfill for their health and safety in extreme weather since they are captive on that chain and deserve your protection,” Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said.
