Penn State rugby players waive arson hearings

Two Penn State rugby players charged with arson have waived their preliminary hearings.

Court records show that Sean Herbert, 21, and Christopher Petri, 22, both entered early waivers of preliminary hearings in their cases. The two are charged with felony arson and related offenses in connection with a Jan. 15 fire that burned a shed containing rugby and cross-country team equipment.

The incident saw the entire team placed on summary suspension from practice and competition, Penn State said last week.

The fire allegedly was set after a party at a residence known as the Rugby House because of the team members, including Herbert and Petri, who lived there. The two left the house with a lighter and lighter fluid the night of the fire.
