A State College Area High School freshman was caught displaying a knife at school Tuesday, police said.
According to police, the incident was reported at about 1 p.m. Whether the student was showing the knife to other students or simply carrying it was not made clear by police but, according to Pennsylvania law, possessing any weapons on school property is strictly prohibited.
The matter is under investigation, police said. State High Principal Scott DeShong said the issue is being handled according to school policy.
According to the district’s weapons policy, “any student violating this weapons policy must be expelled from school for a period of no less than one year; however, the superintendent (or Board of School Directors) may modify the expulsion requirement on a case-by-case basis.”
