Mifflin County man accused of fraud, identity theft

A Mifflin County man is in the Centre County Correctional Facility, charged with one count each of fraud and identity theft.

Quyen Tran, 34, of Lewistown, was arrested by State College police Thursday after Tran reportedly recoded one of his credit cards with the information from another card and attempted to make several purchases with it, according to the criminal complaint. Police were first notified when a resident reported on Dec. 5 that there had been unauthorized use of the person’s credit card. The unauthorized purchase was at a Giant in Burnham, police said. Video surveillance footage and still photos from the store were used to identify Tran, according to police.

The person made a purchase at Nail Square, 127 Rolling Ridge Drive, on Dec. 1 and Tran was found to work there, according to the criminal complaint.

Tran is held on $50,000 cash bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 31.
