Rare currency, coins stolen from Conklin’s Corner shop

State police at Philipsburg are investigating a burglary at a business owned by a family member of state Rep. Scott Conklin, D-Rush Township.

Police responded to Conklin’s Corner, an antique and gift store on Tyrone Pike in Philipsburg, at about 8:25 p.m. Saturday. Two people took rare currency from two display cases in the store, police said. Items taken included a certified $1,000 bill, Civil War-era currency and gold and silver coins, police said.

Staff at the business said the items taken were not owned by the store but rather a vendor renting space there.

The suspects on foot north toward Philipsburg, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call state police at Philipsburg at 342-3370.
