Philipsburg man faces stream of charges after allegedly urinating in Dollar General store

A Philipsburg man was arrested on numerous charges Thursday after police said he urinated on merchandise at the Dollar General on North Front Street in Philipsburg.

Charles Merrell Jr., 61, of North Second Street, was charged with disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting arrest and criminal mischief.

State police at Philipsburg said the station received a report that a white man who appeared to be intoxicated entered the Dollar General at about 4:20 p.m., went to the back of the store and urinated on merchandise, then opened a side door, setting off the alarm.

Trooper Michael Wasilko took Merrell into custody, and as he attempted to release the man to an acquaintance, Merrell became combative by kicking Wasilko in the leg several times, the police report said.

Merrell was then handcuffed and taken to the Centre County booking center for arraignment. He was remanded to the Centre County jail on $10,000 bail.

Damage to items in the store was about $400, Wasilko said.
