Some stores in Nittany Mall closed for about an hour Friday while police investigated a report of a “suspicious package,” State College police Sgt. Todd Scholton said.
Scholton said police received a call at 11:43 a.m. about an item that looked like a small box that was left unattended on the stage area near Bon-Ton.
The item turned out to be a piece of pottery.
Scholton said officials examined the “homemade pottery” item and conducted an X-ray, which took about an hour and a half.

“We asked some nearby stores to close briefly while the investigation was underway,” Scholton said. “The area was roped off, but the rest of the mall was open. … We don’t believe there was any criminal intent.”
