A Hazleton man faces drug as well as theft charges after police said he tried to steal Gatorade late Saturday morning.
Jonathan Pereyra, 23, was arrested by State College police late Saturday after employees at McLanahan’s on College Avenue reported they saw him try to leave the store without paying for a Gatorade, police said. Staff called police and reported they followed Pereyra outside and confronted him, police said.
Employees reported Pereyra returned inside the store and that they saw him take a bag from his pocket and put it in his sock, police said. Pereyra was found to be in possession of 34 white pills determined to be MDMA, according to police.
Pereyra is charged with felony possession with intent to deliver, a misdemeanor possession charge and retail theft, according to court documents. Pereyra was arraigned Saturday afternoon before District Judge Thomas Jordan, who set bail at 10 percent of $5,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.
