A pair of Connecticut men are in Centre County prison after an incident Saturday in Patton Township that left a cab driver with minor injuries.
Patton Township police responded to Vairo Boulevard about 9:30 p.m. after a taxi driver was reportedly assaulted. The driver told officers that Zachary Wiley, 23, of North Grosvenordale, Conn., and Anthony Mantelli, 21, of Thompson, Conn., approached his cab and words were exchanged, police said. The man said Wiley “sucker punched” him as he sat in the car, police said.
Wiley and Mantelli were in town visitng a friend for State Patty’s Day, police said. Wiley is charged with simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Mantelli is charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. They were arraigned Sunday before District Judge Steven Lachman, who set bail for each at $7,500. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for Wednesday.
