A painting of Jesus reported stolen from a downtown State College restaurant has been returned.
The person who took it returned it to Mad Mex on Pugh Street sometime early Thursday. Employees discovered it unharmed as they showed up for work, manager Kristen Burns said.
It was in red wrapping paper and had a note attached, Burns said. The author apologized for having taken the painting and wrote that taking it was a “drunken mistake,” she said.
Staff at the restaurant reported it missing to State College police Monday and told officers that a college-aged male had taken it from the restaurant last week, police said. The painting was valued at more than $1,000, police said.

Now that it’s been returned, Burns said, they plan to permanently fasten the painting to the wall.
