I-80 traffic stop yields hundreds of identity theft, fraud charges

Three New York men are in the Centre County Correctional Facility after state police reported the discovery of fraudulent credit cards during a traffic stop Tuesday.

Baohuan Chen, 34, Sheng Hua Wu, 21, both of Brooklyn, and Hai Kun Li, 29, of Elmhurst, face a total of 184 counts each on four charges: identity theft, fraud, dealing in proceeds of illegal activities and possessing instruments of crime.

State police at Rockview stopped a minivan traveling westbound on Interstate 80 for speeding and making a lane change without using a turn signal, according to the criminal complaint. Police discovered 91 credit cards with the names of various people on them, according to court documents. A check of the cards revealed discrepancies between the card numbers and the banks they belong to, police said.

The men were arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Kelley Gillette-Walker, who set bail at $75,000 for each. Preliminary hearings are scheduled for April 15.
