A State College man is in custody, accused of shoving a 9-year-old into a wall.
State College police arrested Sisay Shimelis, 46, on charges of simple assault, endangering welfare of children, reckless endangerment and harassment Monday night after an officer was called to the emergency room at Mount Nittany Medical Center, where a child was being treated for a concussion.
A woman at the emergency room reported that the child was playing with another child at a State College home and Shimelis separated the two when the play turned rough, police said. The 9-year-old was pushed into a wall and complained of pain and dizziness afterward, when the woman took the youngster to the hospital, police said.
Shimelis was arraigned before District Judge Steven Lachman Tuesday morning. Lachman set bail at $5,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15.
