A Bellefonte man is behind bars on $75,000 monetary bail after police say he attempted to flee from them Saturday evening.
According to an affidavit, Frederick Ed McDaniel, 54, drove a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am past police on South Allegheny Street without his headlights on.
Bellefonte police Officer Robert S. Igoe activated his emergency overhead lights, but instead of stopping, police say McDaniel turned onto West High Street. McDaniel, according to court documents, allegedly proceeded along High Street through a red light onto Water Street.
The chase continued into Spring and Benner townships and eventually onto Interstate 99.
Police stopped McDaniel right before the Mount Nittany Medical Center exit of I-99
Police charged McDaniel with a misdemeanor count of fleeing and attempting to elude police and six summary charges for traffic-related offenses.
McDaniel’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Wednesday.
