Pennsylvania State Police investigate animal cruelty death

A cat was euthanized at Metzger Animal Hospital after it suffered several injuries, according to a release from state police at Philipsburg.

The cat’s owner found it outside of his home off Walker Hollow Road in Union Township. It had BB wounds and a broken femur.

The owner found the 15- to 16-year-old cat at about 1 p.m. on June 9 and took it to the animal hospital where it was later euthanized.

“While it should not surprise me, each time we get a case where someone deliberately hurts a defenseless animal, it still is absolutely unthinkable,” Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller said. “The charge of animal cruelty is the only crime in the crimes code where we can ask for a pre-sentence mental evaluation and for good reason. If anyone knows who deliberately harmed this cat, I would hope they would come forward and report it. What would stop this person from doing it again?”

Police launched an investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 342-3370.
