Man charged with burglary also had a gun, police say

A New York man was charged by state police at Rockview after an alleged burglary in Centre Hall.

Joshua Lee Powell, 32, of Yonkers, was charged with burglary, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful body armor and criminal trespassing.

According to a police report, police were notified that a black man fled on foot after entering a home at 444 S. Pennsylvania Ave. without permission.

The incident happened at about 10 a.m. Thursday, according to the report.

Trooper Madison Harris said in the report that the man dropped a plastic bag as he was fleeing that contained suspected heroin, and he was apprehended by police in the Dollar General parking lot at 421 S. Pennsylvania. Ave.

Police also found a backpack that belonged to the suspect, police said.

It was hidden in a drainage pipe near the Dollar General, and it contained body armor and a High Point .380 handgun, according to the report.

The investigation is ongoing.
