A man was arrested Tuesday after allegedly assaulting a clerk in a downtown State College clothing store.
According to a criminal complaint filed by State College police, the man, identified as Shane Waldron, 25, allegedly entered the Anthym Running store and attempted to purchase $962 worth of clothing and shoes. Waldron presented the clerk with a PayPal debit card and allegedly said it would show “declined.”
He allegedly requested that the clerk manually enter the card to make the purchase, the complaint said. When the clerk refused, saying he believed it to be a scam, Waldron allegedly began yelling and was asked to leave the store.
Waldron began walking out of the store, the complaint said, but allegedly re-entered and punched the clerk in the back of the head.

When the police responded, the complaint said, the clerk identified Waldron, who had been located at the intersection of Kelly Alley and West Calder Way. When questioned, Waldron allegedly provided police with false identification.
Waldron was arraigned before District Judge Thomas Jordan and charged with three misdemeanor counts of simple assault, trespassing and false identification to a law enforcement officer. Jordan set bail at $20,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 17.
