Will Penn State part ways with Nike? Athletic department evaluating options
Penn State is currently determining the future of its apparel partnership — one that has been tied to Nike since 1993.
A Penn State spokesperson said the program is still in the middle of the process.
“Penn State Athletics is conducting a Request for Proposal (RFP) for its future apparel partnership and evaluating various opportunities,” the spokesperson said. “This process will enable Penn State Athletics to identify the best partner to support our student-athletes, coaches and fans.”
On3’s Brett McMurphy said the program is set to switch from Nike to Adidas pending approval from the board of trustees, citing multiple sources.
If the Nittany Lions were to switch from Nike to Adidas, they would be the second major program to do so in the last month after Tennessee made the same move, which included additional NIL opportunities for the school’s athletes.
Penn State’s original move to Nike happened the same year the football team joined the Big Ten, and has spanned the last 32 years.
The university’s board of trustees is set to meet Sept. 11-12 at the Nittany Lion Inn.
