Nittany Lion Shrine to open for summer grads

The Nittany Lion Shrine is open again. Well, until Sunday, anyway.

Summer grads looking to pose in their caps and gowns in front of the iconic sculpture will be able to for a brief weekend window.

Then it shuts down for more construction for a targeted opening date of Sept. 6.

The shrine began undergoing renovations right after spring graduation in May.

The work consists of new landscaping, improvements in the accessibility of the site and new lighting.

Those visiting the shrine have been asked by the university to observe safety measures in place during construction. Parking for the shrine is in the small lot just to the west.

The shrine is a gift of the Class of 1940, and the Class of 2012 voted to improve the shrine area as its senior gift.
