Penn State president to testify about state aid

The state Senate and House appropriations committees will hear testimony Tuesday from Penn State President Rodney Erickson about why state funding is important to the university.

Erickson will go before the Senate at 9:30 a.m. and the House at 2 p.m. Erickson will be joined by leaders from the universities of Pittsburgh, Temple and Lincoln, who will testify about the same thing for their institutions.

The hearings were originally to be held last week, but a winter storm caused them to be rescheduled.

Gov. Tom Corbett’s 2014-15 budget calls for $214 million for Penn State to put toward subsidizing the cost of in-state tuition.
