The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is scheduled to be recognized Wednesday by the state House in Harrisburg. Thon has raised more than $127 million to fight pediatric cancer since its relationship with the Four Diamonds Fund at the Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital began in 1977.

Rep. Kerry Benninghoff, R-Bellefonte, and Senate Majority Leader Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, were the leading advocates behind Resolution No. 119, which mentions the more than 15,000 Penn State student volunteers who helped to raise approximately $13 million for this year’s event.

“Thon has inspired similar events and organizations across the United States, including at high schools and institutions of higher education and continues to encourage students throughout the nation to volunteer and stay involved in great charitable causes in their communities,” the resolution notes.

The state Senate is expected to pass a similar resolution immediately after.
