Penn State alumnus Ryan Bagwell seeks trustee seat

The Penn State graduate who’s suing for access to university records about the Freeh report has announced he will run for an alumni seat on the board of trustees.

Ryan Bagwell, a 2002 alumnus, said he is committed to long-term reform of the university and wants to win one of the three seats up for election. Bagwell ran unsuccessfully for one of the alumni seats last year.

Bagwell has several lawsuits pending, including one in which he is suing for access to a former trustee’s emails with Freeh investigators. Bagwell sued the state Department of Education, and now Penn State is defending against the lawsuit.

“My commitment to transparency and integrity has gone unmatched,” said Bagwell, who started a fundraising campaign called the Penn State Sunshine Fund to help cover his legal bills for pursuing the litigation. “As a trustee, I will work tirelessly to make the board transparent and provide the answers that alumni demand.

Bagwell said the cost of a Penn State education is another important concern of his because of the rising costs students have to pay.
