A Garden party

When Coach Joe Paterno is finished coaching, he can always move to the broadcast booth.

He showed that again last night, talking hoops with the ESPN crew on national TV and following the game the same time.

Paterno's hoops memories are golden, and it was great to see him among the huge Penn State crowd at Madison Square Garden.

It was a great victory  for Penn State, a dominating performance by guys who are playing at a high level and striving for a championship.

They brought Big Ten basketball to the Garden in a big way, and Notre Dame was off its game from the start as the Lions played super defense and won 67-59.

Again Jamelle Cornley was a warrior, and it's fantastic seeing him complete his Penn State career at the Garden. He's something special and has been for four years. Penn State fans know it and now so does the nation.

I think we're going to see a classic matchup with Baylor, an impressive, senior-driven team that has come together in recent weeks. Remember it took Missouri to beat Baylor in the Big 12 title game, and Missouri just beat Memphis and played well against UConn.

Penn State played in its only NIT title game 11 years ago, against Minnesota. Let's hope this one turns out differently and the Lion seniors got out as champs.
