When rumors take over

Diane Conrad of Ferguson Township police found out this week what happens when rumor and gossip take over and some represent it as fact.

I saw some of the e-mails floating around about the stranger at the little league field and they reminded me of others I see, almost every week, on other topics.

Rumors are presented as facts, and writers are always outraged that the information that they apparently believe is being ignored by others.

Conrad, to her credit, responded to this misinformation in the right way.

Every day in print and online we present facts and trusted information, the best that we can determine, about this case and others. I hope it can help stem the misinformation.
