You can tell a big national election is coming down the pike. As a newspaper editor, you expect the e-mails and you get them, by the dozen.
Today alone I've received about 50 letters via e-mail. Six to eight are from local residents and will be published.
The rest? From people in California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey and points unknown.
You wonder why someone in California is sending us a letter? He's probably sending it to dozens and hundreds of papers. And it might run once, in his hometown paper.
That's how it goes.
Yesterday, I counted 25 straight e-mails that were spam, political campaign PR or political correspondence from people far from Centre County. Yes, on a Sunday.
It's always interesting.
I do hope voters turn out in November. It's a very important election, as you know.
