U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson released from Walter Reed hospital after testing positive for COVID-19
U.S. Rep. Glenn “GT” Thompson, R-Howard Township, is recovering at home after testing positive for COVID-19 on Friday and receiving treatment at a military hospital.
According to a Saturday press release from his office, Thompson was released from Walter Reed National Military Center outside of Washington, D.C., on Friday evening after receiving outpatient treatment. The 62-year-old is vaccinated against the coronavirus and was treated at the hospital “out of an abundance of caution.”
Thompson offered thanks to the attending physician at the U.S. Capitol, along with the doctors, nurses and staff at Walter Reed, the release stated. He plans to work virtually from home next week. His Medicare Open Enrollment Telephone Town Hall is still scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to his website.
Nearly 90 members of the House of Representatives and Senate have been diagnosed with COVID-19, according to GovTrack, a nonpartisan organization.
Breakthrough infections are expected. Those who are vaccinated are eight times less likely to be infected and 25 times less likely to experience hospitalization or death compared to those who are not vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
