Our View | Thumbs for Wednesday

Thumbs up: To Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology, which celebrated the opening of its Transportation Training Center on Friday. The center is for those studying areas such as diesel repair technology, heavy-equipment operation and bus-driver training.

Thumbs up: To Central Pennsylvania Convention and Visitors Bureau, which celebrated its 50th anniversary Tuesday. The organization was launched in 1963 and has grown and evolved in the decades since. CVB is now a key tourism and economic driver in our region.

Thumbs up: To the Penn State Student Programming Association for bringing former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and husband, astronaut Mark Kelly, to the area for its Distinguished Speakers Series. Her recovery from a 2011 assassination attempt is inspiring.
