Our View | Thumbs for Saturday

Thumbs up: To a new program that will let Centre County jurors give their per diem payments to local charities. Jury members are paid a nominal fee for their service, but they don’t always collect. Now they can choose to donate to a good cause.

Thumbs down: To Jalene McClure, the day care provider who was convicted in September of assault, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. She was sentenced Friday to 10-20 years in prison for the permanent damage done to the little girl.

Thumbs up: To the capture of Eric Frein, the survivalist suspected of gunning down two state troopers Sept. 12 outside their barracks. The seven-week manhunt finally ended Thursday in the Poconos, where residents and law enforcement officials are breathing a sigh of relief.
