Our View: Thumbs for Tuesday

Thumbs up: To Penn State undergraduate student Maya Evanitsky and her adviser, anthropology and biology professor George Perry, who are researching the DNA of the extinct Nittany lion. “As a Penn Stater, this is pretty awesome,” Evanitsky said.

Thumbs down: To the recent rash of wildfires in the county, including a weekend blaze that scorched 18 acres in Potter Township. Fire officials are asking residents not to throw lit cigarettes or burn trash or brush until the ground and trees are fully green.

Thumbs up: To Jordan Spieth, the 21-year-old Texas golfer who broke all kinds of records to take the green jacket at Augusta on Sunday. Among other impressive achievements, Spieth was the first wire-to-wire Masters winner since 1976.
