It is disheartening that someone has won the presidency who appealed to the very worst of us by invoking bigotry and taking aim at blacks, Latinos, Muslims and Jews.
There is a glimpse of hope that his first speech as president-elect promises unity. However, he needs to demonstrate this commitment by denouncing the bigotry that persists.
We can help him and our country by standing up against injustices whenever we are confronted with them. Now is not the time to become complacent.
