The staff at Centre Crest are some of the hardest-working people in the county. They have given their blood, sweat and tears to the residents of the nursing home.
The fact that Commissioners Chris Exarchos and Steve Dershem didn’t give the staff — or the residents of the county — the opportunity to speak at a public forum is unacceptable.
According to the employees I’ve spoken with, the commissioner who regularly visited Centre Crest over the past few months was Michael Pipe.
It’s a shame that Exarchos and Dershem didn’t have the guts to look the employees in the eyes and tell them their retirement would be cut and replaced with a 401(k).

It’s also a shame the employees’ health care premiums are going to go up.
It must be nice to make a decision from afar and not take into consideration the people affected. These people work not only for a paycheck but to care for those who cannot care for themselves.
Is this how we should reward them?
