Letter to the editor | The risks are too great

As a Vietnam War Navy veteran and having served in the Naval Security Group Command from 1968 to 1972, I have some very serious concerns in regard to Syria.

According to cnsnews.com, the following travel warning was issued: “Al Qaeda-affiliated Syrian rebels have ‘claimed nearly 600 attacks’ ” and “Numerous innocent Syrians have been killed,” according to the State Department.

This is the group that the Obama administration wants to order our military to defend.

Whatever happened to the concern for our military in the chaos caused in the Middle East via the Obama administration’s Arab Spring debacle, which has further destabilized what was already the world’s powder keg?

Why is our military going to be used to defend the tyranny of the al-Qaida allied Syrian rebels, an al-Qaida that has killed thousands of our troops defending America from terrorism since it killed 3,000 of our fellow Americans on 9/11, in a Syrian civil war?

Who’s going to apologize to the military families of the fallen who died fighting al-Qaida that our military is now going to be unconscionably ordered to defend?

Did any of the warmongers stop and think about that?

Risking the lives of our military to give aid and comfort to an al-Qaida-allied enemy of America in the Syrian rebels — an enemy our military has fought against and died defending America since 9/11 — is treason, per Article III, Section 3 of the Constitution, with all those responsible deserving of prosecution to the full extent of the law.
