Letter to the editor | Not represented

Last week, U.S. Rep. Glenn Thompson, R-Howard Township, voted to cut the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program, better known as food stamps, by $40 billion.

The man we elected to represent our values as central Pennsylvanians voted to drop 3.5 million people from food assistance. Half of food stamp recipients are children and two-thirds of adult recipients are women.

About 170,000 veterans also would lose assistance. He voted to kick 120,000 kids nationwide off of free and reduced lunches.

According to the 2010 census, Penns Valley Area School District had 453 students on free or reduced lunches; Bellefonte 882; Bald Eagle 708; and State College 1,220.

Which of those children does Thompson think should sit in school hungry? Whose grandmother or who among our veterans should make decisions as to what days they can eat?

I am outraged. Thompson does not represent me and I’m guessing he doesn’t represent many voters.

Vote him out.
