It is with some dismay that I have noticed a proliferation of Planet Aid recycling receptacles in the the Centre Region.
Two of the finest charities in the country — Goodwill Industries and the Salvation Army — collect donations that are used far more efficiently and honestly.
According to sites that monitor charitable organizations, Planet Aid donates only 29 cents of every dollar raised, with 71 cents going to expenses and overhead.
Its main selling point is this: We keep clothes from going into landfills and we recycle. Yes, they do, but far more of the clothing and the money raised by Goodwill and other charities goes to the needy.
Please be mindful of who makes the best use of your donated clothing and funds, then give with a generous heart.
