I am not a grumpy old teetotaler.
I did my share of partying in college, and I still know how to have a good time; however, I got nauseated reading that the $200,000 to pay off bars and beer distributors to not serve alcohol on State Patty’s Day could have gone to scholarship and student activities funds.
How can students betray their own affinity group for a 24-hour party day that they can have any time they want without bringing in a few thousand extra revelers?
It’s not about freedom to party; it’s selfish and irresponsible.

State Patty’s organizers and participants are betraying the Penn State students who make us proud. Please consider giving up this faux festival. It’s not upbeat, it’s not institution-enhancing.
It’s shameful to waste positive funding sources for a cause like this.
