I write as someone who spent 12 years on the board of trustees as the original “reform trustee.”
When the Paterno family endorsed the Penn Staters for Responsible Stewardship candidates last year, I gave up my own re-election bid to endorse the PS4RS candidates because I felt that backing the Paterno family was vital.
This year, however, I do not recommend voting for a ticket.
We need Gavin Keirans on the board. He is the best candidate I know who will thoughtfully and fearlessly tackle the issues facing our Penn State family.
I have known Keirans since 2008 when he was first elected student-body president. He has a way of working with student leaders and administrators in Old Main that I have never seen before.
I saw him reinvigorate student life in the face of impossible odds. He is one of only two Penn State student-body presidents ever to be re-elected.
Since graduating, Keirans has been working with business and financial leaders across the country. Yet he stays on top of all the issues facing the university and the student body.
He’s a young man who is able to work effectively with people three times his age.
Those who believe in voting the ticket, should use that for two of the three spots. Just make sure to keep room for Gavin Keirans on the ballot. He won’t let you down.
