Letter | Responsible journalism should prevent rewriting history

For the second time in five days, the CDT has either implied (May 7) or written explicitly (May 11) that the board of trustees accepted the Freeh Report and the subsequent NCAA penalties. The trustees never have taken a vote to approve either the Freeh Report or the NCAA penalties. To the best of my knowledge, Chairwoman Karen Peetz and possibly a few others acted unilaterally in advising the president to sign a consent rather than taking the much harsher alternative offered by the NCAA. Advice to the president from a chairwoman and acceptance by the full trustees are two different things. Responsible journalism should do everything it can to prevent rewriting history.
