Letter to the Editor | Tobash reform won’t help

The op-ed by Stephen Herzenberg (June 21 CDT) is a must-read for every Pennsylvania taxpayer. The Tobash “pension reform” that is supported by Gov. Corbett will not save tax dollars nor will it solve the unfunded liability facing the state’s retirement systems.

This plan will only help with the 2014-15 budget problem with a “kick it down the road” philosophy. Several alternate proposals have been introduced that address the situation in a timely manner that will ease the tax burden now facing local school districts and the state.

I hope that our legislators see the Tobash proposal for what it is and not succumb to Corbett’s tactics to hold up a budget vote. If he succeeds, the taxpayers in Pennsylvania will pay later.
