Letter to the Editor | ‘A lot of speculation’

I’ve noticed there is a lot of speculation about the recent resignation of Eric Holder from the cabinet position of attorney general. I think the real reason is obvious. Have you never heard about large rodents precipitously departing a no-longer seaworthy ship of state?

Also, after hearing/reading the president’s repeated denials concerning “no boots on the ground” in Iraq, I have been told that a recent shipment to Fort Riley, Kan., (home of the 1st Infantry Division) consisted of 40,000 pairs of tennis shoes. There was a second report that said the shipment actually consisted of golf shoes. Thus, the president keeps his word.

On the serious side, how can one feel about the deployment of 3,000 U.S. troops to Africa to “fight” Ebola? The troops will be sent without weapons and without body armor. Their protection will be military police. They also will be without any type of protective gear to prevent exposure to the virus. Prevention is to be “extensive personal hygiene”. In some of the poorest countries in the world.
