Letter to the editor: ADA parking exists at Penn State

A recent letter concerning a perceived lack of accessible parking (as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act) for Center for the Performing Arts presentations included several inaccuracies.

Accessible parking is provided in close proximity to Eisenhower and Schwab auditoriums.

For CPA presentations, accessible spaces at all levels in the Eisenhower parking deck are available for vehicles with handicapped placards displayed.

The deck elevator is available for patrons who need to park above the first level. Due to university construction, the small lot at Tyson Building, which had been used for accessible parking during performances, is closed through August 2015.

Although not as conveniently located as the Tyson lot, the Eisenhower deck offers covered, accessible parking on each level and is only a short distance from the auditorium.

For CPA concerts at Schwab, two accessible spaces are available behind the venue for vehicles with handicapped placards displayed.

Also, a Penn State wheelchair-accessible trolley delivers patrons from the Eisenhower deck to the front of Schwab Auditorium or to the accessible entrance at Schwab and returns them to the original pickup location outside of the Eisenhower parking deck after the event.

We continue to provide dedicated accessible drop-off areas at Eisenhower and Schwab for our patrons.

Our staff provides assistance for patrons and are dedicated to the comfort and travel of individuals with accessibility challenges who attend our events. If you have questions or need assistance at performances, please contact Lisa Faust, audience services manager, at 865-4727 or lxm2@psu.edu.
