Letter to the editor: Vote to send woman to Congress

According to CapitalWatchPa.com, women in this country represent only 8.1 percent of top earners and 4.6 percent of Fortune 500 CEOs.

Two-thirds of minimum-wage earners are women, who often earn $7.25 an hour. At this rate, a full-time worker earns an annual salary of $14,500.

According to U.S. Census Bureau, women earn 77 cents for every dollar earned by men. And yet, Rep. Glenn Thompson voted against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009, which gives women the ability to sue for wages they have been denied simply because of gender.

He has not supported Rep. Rosa DeLauro. D-Conn., in her more recent attempts to bring equal pay legislation to the House floor for a vote.

We need a representative who will make minimum wage and equal pay for equal work top priorities.

Our traditional 5th Congressional District has never had a woman represent us in the Congress, and there is a possibility that there will be no women in the entire Pennsylvania delegation going to Washington in January.

It is time to send Kerith Strano Taylor to Congress.
